Where Past Meets Future

the site of our village itself dates back to the 19th century and until our purchase was in the hands of the Bridge family. They conducted numerous business ventures from here employing many Enfield residents over more than a century. It was originally a grist mill and box shop but grew and evolved over the years to include- silo maker, road construction, water company, insurance agency, reel manufacturer, tractor sales and service, hardware/lumber store and more.
Hazardville itself got its name from Colonel Hazard who owned the Hazard Powder Co. in Powder Hollow. During the Civil war, they were producing 12,500 barrels of gunpowder per day running round the clock. Their operations included 125 buildings stretched along a vast expanse of the Scantic river over hundreds of acres.
Hazard was not without controversy as before the war he had befriended future Confederate President Jefferson Davis even entertaining him at his residence on Rt. 5 shortly before the war broke out. Col. Hazard sold the South 80,000 pounds of gun powder just before the war started and it was this powder that was used to bomb Fort Sumter and power the Confederate forces.
We hope to help preserve and spread Hazardvilles rich history.
